About this tool

The Word & Character Counter gives you an instant, detailed breakdown of any text you paste in. Instead of guessing, you get exact numbers for words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and lines, plus an estimated reading time.

It is built for writers, students, marketers and developers who work against hard limits — meta descriptions, tweets, essay quotas or database field sizes. The count updates live as you type, so there is no button to press and no waiting.

How to use

  1. Paste or type your text into the input box.
  2. Watch the statistics update in real time as you edit — no button needed.
  3. Read the word count, character count (with and without spaces), sentence and paragraph totals.
  4. Check the estimated reading time to judge how long the piece takes to read.
  5. Adjust your text to hit a target limit, then copy the finished version.

Features

  • Live counting that updates on every keystroke.
  • Separate character counts with and without spaces — useful for strict field limits.
  • Sentence, paragraph and line totals in addition to words.
  • Reading-time estimate based on a typical reading speed.
  • Handles Vietnamese and other Unicode text correctly, including accented characters.
  • Works with any length of text, from a single tweet to a full article.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent to a server?

No. All counting happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you paste is uploaded, logged or stored anywhere.

How is the word count calculated?

Words are counted by splitting the text on whitespace and ignoring empty segments, so consecutive spaces or line breaks do not inflate the total.

How is reading time estimated?

Reading time is derived from the word count using an average silent reading speed of roughly 200 to 250 words per minute.

Does it count characters with or without spaces?

Both. The tool shows two character figures so you can match whichever limit a platform uses.

Can I count a very large document?

Yes. Because everything runs in your browser, you can paste long articles or entire documents and still get instant results.
